Up-soft CLS free for download

In this uncertain time with the coronavirus spreading, people are urged to stay home and protect themselves and others and prevent the virus from spreading. Many people are confined to their homes.

Up-soft wants to contribute and offers free use of CLS during this period. Simply visit their website and download the game. You can also find several of Surrec's music discs there which are made available by this site as well. Enjoy playing the game and listening to the music!

Just for curiosity, I'm looking for information about the relation between Up-Soft and Surrec, and I didn´t find nothing :/
I only find that Up-Soft it's seem to be MSX-NBNO.

Was CLS the only game made by Up-Soft? (in cooperation with DarkStone)

What are the system requirements to run it? Looks like it needs 256kB RAM and MSX-DOS2 at least.

Up-Soft is, AFAIK, Richard Bosch and Raymond Hoogerdijk. Both were also active MSX-NBNO members. But there were also other people in MSX-NBNO like Maico Arts and Mari van den Broek. Richard is part of Surrec as well, but I don't know who else is.

Get on top of any icon that repeats two or three times in a row, and while holding down the space key, press one of the cursor keys for select the same icons, then loose the space key.

In NMS 8245 with external 1mb does not works.
Works in turbo R but music sounds distorted and Settings option it's disabled.

It's a turbo R game?

@Hamlet, if you have an original copy, Could you share a manual's picture?

No, it's not a turboR game. It works fine here on a Sony HB-F700P with MSX-DOS2 and FM-PAC/MusicModule.

As you need DOS2, the 8245 with 1MB is not enough. Add DOS2 and it will work.

There seems to be a problem on turboR with R800 mode.

I just burn DOS2 in a old flash cartridge and I try too with my old Sunrise ATA-IDE. Now, in 8245 the game load till the menu screen but when pressing START, the game freeze in "loading..." screen.

It's seems the game not recognize external 1MB. At least mine (Musical Memory Mapper).

Try with your ATA-IDE on the 8245 with MMM and boot with DEL key pressed. I guess it works. Loading can take a while though.

Nothing neither :/
I'm sure the problem it's my 1MB because without the 1MB expansion the menu screen shows the options START GAME, SETTINGS and END. But if I insert the 1MB, the game freeze in menu screen but not shows the options.

I once bought the game, never got it to run cuz the disk was broken, but I do not remember having had a manual with it.

Surrec also included the Reemeyer brothers. One of them, Qix, was the one who wrote the music. He also made the music for Thunderbirds are Go and Find-it.

Typing START /? the downloadable version it's 1.000 from 2004 (may it's not the last because Settings option it's disabled)

The link between Up-soft and surrec you found is correct, i was part of Surrec together with Paul Reemeijer and Martijn Reemeijer. after a while Mari van den Broek also helped out with some discs.

about the boot problem, i never heard it before i had it running some time ago on my 8280.
it schould be able to work on an MSX2 that is how it was sold and tested.

@juanmi we also released a game last year in Nijmegen called Catch the bomb. and we are currently working on something else(but due to Corona there is no progress at the moment)

I know the reason why it is not working. This disk image is coming from the CD-version. The Settings menu option is also disabled in this version. I will make an updated disk image which will be published soon. The game should run on a standard MSX-2 with 128K memory.

It took me 3 times before the download worked...

Anyway, are you sure about the 128kB RAM? The manual says 64kB RAM, but I can't load it on a 128kB RAM MSX (e.g. a 8250). It hangs up at "Loading data..." when I do that. But with 256kB RAM it works OK. All with DOS2, of course, as mentioned in the manual.

Thanks raymond and yustmenl. Now Settings option it's enabled, but still I can´t load the game :/

I think Manuel has reason about 256kb. I tried with external 1MB but happens the same that CD version. The game hangs up before "Loading data". Without external RAM, hangs up at "Loading data..."

Maybe the game only find the internal ram and crash with external one. My 1MB ram it's the Musical Memory Mapper.
