I don't know if it's related, but I also get memory issues with vgmplay. When I want to play the intro to MG2, the vgz file (approx 50kb) is too big, not enough memory.... I have a GT with 1mb internal memory though...
Hi Latok,
Can you type "MEMORY" from the MSX-DOS command line and report what you get ?
Also, when yo you get the error message from ? (Unzipping, VGMPlay istelf ?).
I am really missing the sofa in the splash screen
Yeah, I've been using Sofa pictures from the internet for the splash screen, but was running out of good resources and inspiration. Conversion also takes some time to fix all pixels, but a sofa might come back in a future release.
Doesn't SR support R-Type ROM mapper?
No, it doesn't. Only only one game would be using this mapper, and there are good conversion of the ROM to Konami or ASCII mapper on the net.

I didn't know about such conversions. I'll search for them, then.
You can always contact me if you do not find.

RE: the "not enough segments available" error.
> your Playsoniq should have 12MB of RAM available. Do you see it when you type "MEMORY" in Nextor ?
Sorry, I should have mentioned that. Yes, there's a 4MB block from the PlaySoniq in each of slots 2-0, 2-1 and 2-2.
> Also, is your Playsoniq in a slot expander or in a normal slot ?
It's in slot 2. There's an MFRSCC+SD (with no additional memory) in slot 1.

Ok, just try to use Slot 2-0 then (setting is available through SofaRun). SofaRun currently favors main slot, because loading is faster, but it does not take the "is mapper big enough?" factor into account.
@louthrax: I found the setting and got past the "not enough segments available" error. Thanks!
I was able to run an SG-1000 game (Choplifter). The other game I tried (Bank Panic) booted but hung.
I tried three SMS games (Aleste, Altered Beast and Rastan). All hung on startup with a black screen on the PlaySoniq's video signal. I'm running games from a zip file containing the TOSEC collection. Is there a known-good game I should try?

First guess: you're US based right ? SofaSMS configures the Playsoniq for RGB output, that could be an explanation (try to use NTSC instead).
If that does not help, please post a snapshot of your settings in SofaRun, and the message displayed by SofaSMS before launching the game.

SofaSMS development is just beginning. You can use SG1000.COM for SG-1000 games. It can run well over 95% of Roms without any parameter and with fast application of patch. It supports the Franky, MMM and PlaySoniq cartridges. It can work too on any MSX1 under MSX-DOS1. You can use SG1000.COM with Sofarun.
Louthrax, what do you think of using button 2 like follows?
[Button 2]+[UP] same as the button 2 now but with Sofarun settings only.
[Button 2]+[Down] for settings and action menu for the selected item. (based on name extension or item type)
[Button 2]+[LEFT]/[RIGHT] for change current drive.
It may be better like this:
[Button 2]+[UP] same as the button 2 now.
[Button 2]+[Down] moves to the next page.
[Button 2]+[LEFT]/[RIGHT] to change the current drive.
