Hi ..
does MIDI cable work as an MSX Cassette port cable .. I mean I find a midi cable..cut it and use its wires to create two jacks for a cassette recorder or one jack for mobile ..

I can't see why not it's just a din plug. and a copper wire.
https://www.msx.org/wiki/Data_Recorder_connector. Only a data recorder uses a 8 pin din. midi is 5 din. plug.

If you plan to connect the other end to a mobile phone, make sure you figure out the phone's stereo jack format. There are multiple standards, so a cable for IPhone won't record on Android, and even Android phones don't agree on the same connector arrangement.
I built my cassette cable from a standard 8-pin DIN and a 4-line stereo jack (left right mic and gnd) in accordance to my Note9 jack arrangement. I recorded it in action here: https://youtu.be/AxlwdZdbM08

I am using a cable just like this one
https://www.amazon.in/K-T-iPhones-Android-Portable/dp/B07CTH...

I connect pin 5 of cassette port to L and R of this jack
and connect pin 8 of cassette port to GND of this jack

I used MSX2CAS from mobile Samsung J7 ... printed Bload "cas:",r on MSX and pressed return
choose rom file on MSX2CAS and press play
nothing on MSX there is no "Found; program name"

Tried MSX2CAS command line tool from a laptop and played the output wav file through the cable to MSX
now it shows Found:program name
but at the end it shows Syntax Error

Any suggestions?? thanks for your help

I saw your video...if I want to use my cable in the link above to record a small program just to make sure it loads correctly...I connect pin4 of cassette tape to what part of cable?? then the other end connect it to microphone port on laptop

To record on a laptop that has a separate mic input, just grab pin 4 from the DIN with a ground (e.g. pin 8) and hook both into a mono jack that plugs into the laptop.

If you want to record on phone or a laptop with combined signals, the cable from your link has two 3-way plugs. It can load into MSX, but that won't work with recording. You need 4-way (TRRS):

Then figure out whether your phone/laptop is CTIA or OMTP standard:

and just do the right wiring. When done right, you should be able to see mobile audio recording programs indicating the presence of "an external mic".

If playback into the MSX isn't picking up any games, ensure your phone's volume is set to max before playing the cassette. Also, in MSX2CAS make sure you choose a proper playback speed that your MSX can handle. IIRC my AX170 was able to handle both the slowest and the doubled up speeds, but not faster than that.

Thank you very much..seems my phone is OMTP
I succeeded in loading a small game about 3 KB it is called frog..
now I am trying with castools and MSX2CAS...boulder dash at first minute loaded the screen of ByteBusters then went into BASIC...
I am trying to load other games...some of them the machine resets...some syntax error
1200 Baud is ok for MSX AX-200..the frog game was loaded in it

Sorry, my Samsung Galaxy J7 is CTIA.
I have just like this cable
https://www.dx.com/p/3-x-rca-male-to-3-5mm-male-av-connectio...

when I record I connect pin5 of cassette port to GND of cable since GND is making continuity with sleeve..

Hey Shinobi, MSX noob here. I am trying also to record with my old Samsung galaxy 7 directly from MSX (basic, write a little program, csave and put on the phone as external microphone..) my problem is, while playing tapes goes perfectly, recording signal is not recognised by the phone... Did you remember if you finally could record on phone?
