Hi,

Recently I've restored a MSX2 Sony HB-F700S and I'm looking for a Flashcard (Carnivore2 preferably) but it's impossible. But none of them are currently available for purchasing new. There are also no second-hand units available on eBay, wallapop, etc.

Does anyone know where I could get one?

Your HB-F700S is unique in that it’s ROMs have not been dumped. The rom dumps are used for emulation.

If you would want to help out and dump the roms please check this thread.

good morning, I have to buy an MFR too. I contacted cartridge Shop and the seller told me that the MegaFlashRooms are available, I would like to take the model with SD to and 512kb ram expansion. Also the seller said that my MSX2 philips needs a firmware change to the MFR for audio compatibility. From what I've read Carnivore2 has more 2Mb expansion ram ?? Which do you recommend?

Carnivore2 has 1mb of RAM (used as expansion) and 720kb of shadow RAM to load software to (to save FlashROM write cycles). Also Carnivore2 has FMPAC sound card.

As I understand, the "firmware" change for the MFR on Philips machines is an hardware change to improve SCC sound on the MFR. I have a MFR that did not get that change and I never experienced any sound issues, worse than an original SCC. As far as I know the mixer hardware of the MSX in the Philips is not great.

I never heard of any firmware upgrade for your MSX, except the fast diskrom changes for some machines or when you wanted to upgrade the MSX2+.

I would recommend getting the Carnivore2 with an NMS8250. Why? It has a separate line out and can emulate PSG and PPI so you don’t have to worry about the mixer in your computer. The extra RAM and FM-PAC are great as well.

If you want an MFR I recommend getting a hardware mod for your NMS8250 so that it’s mixer is basically fixed (as it is seriously broken by design). In the long run that may still be a good idea.

The firmware change in the MFR probably changes the PSG ports in the MFR to the standard ports. Thus the PSG in the MFR plays in conjunction withe the internal PSG, but the internal PSG is inaudible due to the broken mixer.

The C2 offers volume controls in it's control panel, which is useful, since not all SOUNDIN pins are created the same on MSX's. My old Goldstar FC200 player SCC games with the background music quiet

So which MegaFlashRoom do you recommend for a Philips NMS 8280 MSX2 ?? Carnivore2 or Cartridge Shop? Which of these is the simplest and most functional to use?

I think the megaflashron from cartridge shop,cos of the sound problem with the nms8280, that works verry wel, i have also nms8250 with that sound problem, And I have not figure it out the sound problem with the c2 on the nms8250. Both are great carts. Thats my opinion.
