I bought a NMs1250 record and iI tried to use it on my 8250 msx2 but it doesn’t load anything. Rem controls works, ear input works, mic input works, it shows data flow, and sounds ok with monitoring. I tried playing with the volume wheel and tried multiple tapes. What could possibly be wrong? I tried other recorders and they just loaded programs instantly. I also noticed it doesn’t even go into error it just runs to the end of the tape and then stops. Also no relais can be heard clicking.

simple test:
a) on basic prompt type: new < enter >
b) then type 10 print "TEST" < enter >

c) verify by typing run < enter >. you should see "TEST"

d) then insert a new cassette tape (not registered, i assume you own one)
e) type csave "X" < enter >
f ) after the tape stops , reboot the msx
g) at the basic prompt type cload
h) rewind the tape from begin and wait until it loads

i) after type list < enter >
you should see the program in step (b)

I never owned this particular model, but it have the tiny hole near the cassette enclosure that is used to adjust the azimut. Press play and use a little screwdriver there to change tone. Find the point with better sound and try. Maybe you’ll have to try some positions before you find the point that makes data audible for the computer. I remember doing this a lot to load programs and games and it solved the issue most of the times.

I tried it again today, and this time it just worked.. how weird.

Edit:
But now it doesn’t work again. I’ll try the solutions you all gave me soon.

Maybe broken cable? Ore the Jack inputs are little bit oxidized. Plug in and out the jackplugs. Otherwise i don"t know.

also loose soldering on connector due to aging, you might want to resolder connector on pcb. it behaves similar, might work or might not, and it is not always visible if the connection between pcb and connector is bad (i had similar things few times, not with cassette, but one CRT monitor has this problem on connectors, both rgb and composite, and once rbg output on msx2 computer has some problems with red color because of that, so with last two computers i received - i immediately resoldered all connectors just in case, it is not a hard work but might save you a lot of time in future)

Thanks everyone. I adjusted the little screw and it runs like new now.
