"let’s hope we can leave all this Corona stuff behind us as soon as possible"

Not anytime soon (I'm afraid). (Or at least I guess not before something fundamentally shifts/moves..)

Here's a recent interesting view on affairs (Paul Kingsnorth @ UnHerd, 30 Nov 2021) (don't be put off by the (shallow) vid title).

having worked on the Damrak in Amsterdam for some years, and having had to listen to that noise for hours on end outside the office, I'm definitely not really that fond of them anymore...

At least not when operated by someone without a sense of music or skill... The spinning of the bellows is all done by engine, so there's no skill in keeping the right rhythm there anymore, but the guy who rattled the tin can during my time in Amsterdam had no sense of rhythm and just randomly rattled the money can, rather than along with the music...

Go entertain the tourists and bother the people living and working there somewhere else, or at least stick to the maximum time you're supposed to stay in one spot, and just move on so others don't have to listen to your crappy versions of pop songs for their entire work day, every day.

(Yes, I'm still salty about it...)

please dont start with this nonsense here.. I'm already busy enough with non-vaccinated people at my work (I work in healthcare).. so busy that I hardly have energy left to do the things I like,, let alone MSX'in

Have you actually watched the (complete) video / listened to the guy? I'd guess no (I won't blame considering your background/time/energy), but then please be careful dismissing topics like these as nonsense.

It's very actual, and I believe his concerns are founded. (Although I might not necessarily agree on everything said.)

But you might have meant that more as 'leave stuff like this outside this place of hobby', which is something else Smile

I get your objection, and dropping this in this topic/thread might not be the most subtle thing, but I do think there should be room in any community to discuss (important) matters like these that are of (basic) concern to us all, and this not too long (34m) video addresses a broad range of valid, actual (social) concerns, and does so in a careful, IMO 'balanced' way. In that light I figured his was something suitable to share at this time. I think these are topics everyone should be concerned about. It's about our future / the way we're heading / the world we want to live in right?

I realize there are a lot of places already where stuff like this is / can be discussed, and there's enough information available for people to look up, enabling them to form their own opinions, so I suppose no need to bother (the ppl of) this community Smile

Just a couple of things..
You bring forth "the unvaccinated" (like we hear ubiquitously), but what annoys me about that (in general): where's the nuance? I suppose the unvaccinated are a vastly diverse group, of which many are unlikely to get hospitalized (and/or already have some form of immunity). Of (major) concern should be the part of that group that's actually high-risk, not?

I'm curious whether the majority of these people (you are seeing) are (still) middle-aged to elderly males with a high BMI as Peter van der Voort (UMCG) claimed before ("Ook voor de #boosterprik geldt dat de IC instroom het snelst afneemt als de risicogroep voor IC opname als eerste een booster krijgt. Vergelijkbaar met begin dit jaar" [twitter]) (He doesn't mention ethnicity (cultural background) & certain other (social) aspects though, I understand there's something to be said about that as well.)

Note that at the start of the vaccination campaign he, among others, plead for vaccinating the high-risk group, and keeping society open (as that would, according to him, lead to a manageable IC/hospitalization scenario). Enough doctors/scientists can be found that question the strategy of vaccinating everyone (some address the non-sterile character of the vaccine). E.g. "Pleidooi: beter niet iedereen vaccineren, het coronavirus verdwijnt namelijk toch niet" (de Gelderlander, 26 Mrt 2021)

Further in light of this topic, the column by Leon de Winter in De Telegraaf of last Wednesday is on point / interesting: 'Scheiding opinie en feiten uit zicht': "Er waart een spook door Europa [...] Hij heet autoritarisme." [twitter]

Anyway, it's always a good thing to hear actual reports from community members/peers working in the field.

And in the light of nuance (hearing the story of unvaccinated are the (cause of the) trouble), CWZ Nijmegen sees an increasing rise in percentage of fully vaccinated (around 70%) [twitter]
I wonder if the same can be said about at your place of work? I suppose that increase can be explained perfectly well (as CWZ does on their website).

So yeah, I oppose (the simplistic) "the unvaccinated" scapegoatism, and I understand people's reasons of (not) getting the shot (and the mandatory (green check) future boosters). Health or getting vaccinated (or not) is one thing, constituting a (global) society of control is another.

FTM is publishing some in-depth on-point articles as well lately on these matters. [twitter (bottom link)] (free access just expired, but you might still find another valid link elsewhere).

Sorry for the large digression.

Good luck on your job (hopefully the situation will get more manageable soon) & happy MSX'in.

Before this escalates, let's keep opinions about Covid19 out of this forum. Anything political or religious that's not MSX related can't be good anyway (yes, there's only 8-bit religion)
