People who might be familiar with Yacht Club Games' other work, know that Jake "Virt" Kaufman's music is a huge contributing factor to the nostalgic vibes their retro inspired games evoke. And for their next project, a Game Boy inspired action adventure, Jake is seeking inspiration in a to us very familiar corner:
We’re back at it again with [local neighborhood audio recluse], Jake Kaufman! The "Expanded NES" music and sound effects in Shovel Knight were all made using the free program, FamiTracker, and they can be played back on a real hardware console. For Mina the Hollower, Jake is imagining that our souped-up fantasy Game Boy supported extra sound chips of its own, and has turned to the MSX home computer and its beloved Konami SCC expansion to capture the lush, haunting sound of this chip mashup.
Mina the Hollower is up on Kickstarter right now and you can find some music samples on the KS page!
