Canon V-30F
This page was last modified 01:32, 11 November 2021 by Gdx. Based on work by Msxholder and Mars2000you and others.

The V-30F comes with a separate keyboard and 1 disk drive by default (there's a location planned for the addition of a second disk drive). It's the last computer released by Canon for the MSX system and the only one with a built-in floppy drive.

The keyboard looks like a PC keyboard. Its inclination is adjustable from 5 to 8 degree. There's a cartridge eject button for the front slot. The RTC batteries are located in the front panel. This computer was aimed at the Japanese market.

This machine has 128kB VRAM as indicated on front, but if you remove the case, you will notice a VRAM cartridge slot at the back with a 64kB VRAM cartridge that can be removed.

The official release was preceded by a prototype without indication on the front about the VRAM size: it has internally 64kB VRAM while the VRAM cartridge slot is directly accessible at the back to insert a cartridge containing the missing 64kB VRAM.

For the photography fans, this machine is recommended to be used with an innovative digital Interface Unit DMB between the computer and the Canon T90 Single-lens reflex (SLR) camera. DMB-90 means Data Memory Back 90.

The Canon V-30F is a MSX2 with a Z80 from NEC (D780C-1) and a MSX-Engine S3527 from Yamaha.

Note about the prototype: without a VRAM cartridge inserted in the VRAM cartridge slot, SCREEN 7 and 8 can't be used. However, the VRAM socket pinout does not have +5v line connected, because FB107 component is missing and the VRAM cartridge would not work without soldering this power line filterblok.
