Introduction

Demo disk released in September 1991 by the MSX-Engine team.

To avoid some problems, you need to boot the computer while pressing the CTRL key.

All parts come with MSX-MUSIC, except the Studio FM Demo 2 and the Disk Stickers part (no music). For the Decalogue promo, MSX-MUSIC is replaced by MSX-AUDIO when this chip is present.

The interface and all parts of this demodisk are for MSX2 and higher. However, see section about the musical files.

Intro (The Disk Of Fear)

Dragon05b.png
Dragon05a.png

To celebrate one year of existence for MSX-Engine, this demodisk starts with an special intro, created by the New Blue Wrecking Crew.

After a typical hypnotic screen, you can see an animation bringing the Dragon Disk 5 package on an oil spot. The result of this event is that the package becomes Dragon Disk 5 1/2!

A very long scroll text with many joking errors in the greetings and a supposed hypnotic grating MSX-MUSIC melody are the definitive marks of this intro!

Studio FM Demo 2

Dragon05d.png

A second preview of the Studio FM musical utility, created by MSX-Engine.

It's actually the complete 1.2 version, but the saving features are disabled for obvious reasons.

Dizzy Demo 2

Dragon05f.png
Dragon05e.png

A second preview of Dizzy, the MSX-Engine puzzle game on screen 8 with original MSX-MUSIC melody.

It's actually level 1 of this game and the Studio FM music is missing on the title screen.

Direct launching: RUN"DIZZY.LDR"

No Fuss Promo

Dragon05h.png
Dragon05g.png

First promo of No Fuss, the second ANMA game.

It's a puzzle game with shooting action. Great MSX-MUSIC + PSG melodies, composed with their own tracker, ANMA's RED, enhance the fun of this original and challenging game.

This promo works only on MSX2 and higher, but the game is also for MSX1.

Direct launching: RUN"NFPROMO.LDR"

Disk Stickers

Decalogue Promo

Dragon05j.png

A promo by the Station Group of their Decalogue demodisk.

It has support for MSX-MUSIC and MSX-AUDIO. When both sound chips are present, MSX-AUDIO is automatically selected.

It is possible to enjoy a great stereo mode (MSX-MUSIC + MSX-AUDIO), you just need to replace the FST.BIN driver by STL2.BIN (driver used in STL 2.11 created by C.S.I and E.M.P.). However, you must delete the existing DECALOG.001 file and rename STL2.BIN as DECALOG.001.

Direct launching: RUN"DECALOG.LDR"

Quinpl Utility

Dragon05l.png
Dragon05k.png

An utility created by Garfield, with a nice graphical and musical intro!

It allows to convert the screen 12 pictures of Quinpl (disk version) into screen 8.

Direct launching: RUN"QUINPL.LDR"

Cyber Demo

Dragon05m.png

First demo of the MSX Software Club Valthermond (MSCV), later known as Techno Crew.

The screen displays the 'CYBER' logo of the programming section and a nice MSX-MUSIC melody is your friend during the reading of the scroll text.

Notes:

  • this demo does not correctly work on most emulators ('hanging' of the scroll text in the rightest part of the screen), try RuMSX or WebMSX!
  • some reviews mention the same problem on real machines, so it seems that this demo is buggy (maybe working only on some specific computers?)

Direct launching: RUN"CYBER.LDR"

Musical files

FAC Soundtracker

Here's the list of files to optionally put on a dedicated FAC Soundtracker 1 music disk:

Song (MUS) Drumkit (SM1) Title Composer Part of the Dragon Disk
CYBER - Crockett's Theme Tristan Zondag Cyber Demo
DECALOG.002 DECALOG.003 Decalogue Theme Hessel Burghardt Decalogue Promo

Notes:

  • DECALOG.001 is actually the FST.BIN 1.0 driver.
  • CYBER.003 is a special looping version of the FST.BIN 1.0 driver.

If you don't use the interface of this demodisk, FAC Soundtracker, Pro Tracker, Studio FM, MIDI Blaster or the FM Music interface, these musical files can be used on MSX1.

Important! You need to modify the names to use the correct extensions (MUS/SM1/SM2), it is also recommended to specify the name of the drumkit (without the extension) in the MUS file.

For more tips about usage of this musical format, check the FAC Music Disk 1 Wiki page.

Studio FM

The main music for the Dizzy game and the corresponding demo on this Dragon Disk are in the Studio FM format. It's also the case for the Intro demo and the Quinpl utility. However, you need to know the way to extract and adapt them.

Notes:

  • the files are hidden in the sectors for the Intro demo and the full version of the Dizzy game

  • QUINPL.SFM needs to be extracted from QUINPL.002
