Description
Sony HB-F1XDmk2 is a cost reduced version of the HB-F1XD. The features and functions are identical, but the casing is a slightly darker black and the red FDD cover has changed to grey. Internally, the FDD has changed from a direct-drive model to a belt driven model. This makes the mk2 less reliable as the rubber belt will break or turn to goo over time and will have to be replaced. The metal shielding has been reduced in size and the system board is a newer revision, although it still contains the same basic components.
The keyboard is quite complete with special keys. There is a hardware PAUSE-button which hangs the computer when pressed. The SPEED-CONTROLLER slider (slow-motion) and the REN-SHA-TURBO slider (auto-fire for both joysticks and spacebar) are nice features for playing games.
Sony HB-F1XDmk2 was available in black and grey on the floppy disk drive. It was aimed at the Japanese market.
At least initially the F1 Tool disk was included with the system.
